Midseason Recap, December 2019

Robinson had a strong start for the Winter 2019-2020 season of the Potomac High School Rifle League (PHSRL).

In our season opener, we defeated Wakefield High School 1160-1046. Our top shooters were Scott Patterson 296-25x, Jack Kersey 291-18x and Will Walton 290-17x.

We took a tough loss to Woodson HS 1167-1163 on December 12. Our top shooters were Scott Patterson 295-23x, Sally Reeke 292-18x and Will Walton 290-18x. Our Junior Varsity won 1145-1138 for their first win of the year.

On December 14, the team earned their second win of the Potomac High School Rifle League season against Centreville HS by a score of 1169 to 1084. Our top shooters today were Scott Patterson 293-21x, Sally Reeke 293-19x and Jack Kersey 292-18x.

In the final match before the Winter Break, we defeated West Potomac High School 1165-1121 on December 22. This raised our record to 3 wins and 1 loss. Our top shooter was Scott Patterson 299-23x who tied the PHSRL record and set the Robinson team record. Our other top shooters were Isaac Vanderhorst 291-21x and Sally Reeke 289-16x.

Potomac High School Smallbore League Achievement

On May 18, we completed the Potomac High School Rifle League Small Bore season. After all of the results were tallied we ended up with 12 of the 17 league awards.

SECOND TEAM: Grace Cason, Andrew Morris, Sally Reeke, and Stefan Arseneau.

HONORABLE MENTION: Isaac Vanderhorst, William Walton, Payton Peppard, Grant Benson, and Trevor Hill.

American Legion State Champs

We had three teams compete in the American Legion Virginia State Championships on Saturday May4, 2019. Our Gold Team scratched out a hard fought win with a score of 2304-116x by only one point over the second place team who had a score of 2303-123x. Our top shooters were Scott Patterson (586-38x, also top match shooter), Grace Cason (581-31x), and Jack Kersey (577-27x).

American Legion Regional Match Results

On April 14, 2019,  the Rams competed in the American Legion Northern Virginia Regional Match. Our Robinson Gold team took first place with a score of 2331. They will go on to compete in the Virginia Championships in Charlottesville on 4 May. Our top shooters were Sally Reeke 587-40x, Scott Patterson 583-35x, and Grace Cason 582-38x.

CMP Camp July 2017

Several athletes and coaches attended the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Junior Air Rifle Camp in Anniston, AL July 10-14, 2017.  

Camp directors and chief instructors were Olympian Dan Durben and Camp and Clinic Coordinator Sommer Wood.

National Air Rifle Championships on June 22-23, 2017

Five members of the Robinson Rifle team earned invitations to the 2017 National Three-Position Air Rifle Championships in Port Clinton, OH on June 22-23.

Thursday, USAShooting ran the National Junior Olympic 3 Position (3P) Air Rifle Championships with strong showings from Emily Fisher with a 582 (placing 72nd individually for the match), Max Brabston and David Linkh both scoring 569.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program ran the National 3P Championships on Friday, and the Robinson Gold Team placed 36th overall with leaders Max Brabston shooting 577 and Emily Fisher scoring 576.

Robinson Takes Bronze in 3P Junior Olympics Qualifier

On February 18-19, 2017, the Robinson Rifle team participated in a virtual Junior Olympic qualifier match in conjunction with the Potomac High School Rifle League championship.

The Robinson Gold Team took third place in the Precision Division, earning bronze medals. Congratulations to our Robinson Gold team of: Max Brabston, Emily Fisher, Jamie McCarty, and Jack Curry, who fired a team score of 2296.

Max Brabston was high scorer for our team, and shot 583, the highest men’s score. Emily Fisher’s 579 was also among the top 10 scores. Jamie McCarty’s 574 was 13th among individuals, and Jack Curry’s 560 was equally important to both our 25 point margin over today’s 4th place team, and yesterday’s 1 point victory in our high school league championship.

Many of our teammates earned Excellence in Competition (EIC) pins, with valuable CMP Cup match points toward their high school career goal of Distinguished Marksman.

* Earning gold pins were 5: Max Brabston, Emily Fisher, Jamie McCarty, David Linkh, and Jack Curry.
* Earning silver pins were 3: Alison Chapman, Grace Cason, and Stefan Arseneau (who shot a 542 today).
* Earning bronze pins were 7: Alex North, Ryan Clark, Kat McGrail, Ben Jackson, Trevor Hill, Emma Ruffing, and Jack Kersey.

Other individual achievements included a personal best kneeling and number of bulls-eyes by Collin Manuel. Grace Cason earned top honors among our freshman, scoring 545. Alex North was high scorer among our sophomores.

Robinson Alumni at Junior Olympic Qualifier in NC

The Carolina Academy of Precision Shooters hosted one of the two 2017 Junior Olympic qualification events in North Carolina on January 6-8, 2017.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack participated; four out of the 11 members of the team are Robinson Rifle alumni. Zach Eisenberg (’16), Caitlyn Ford (’14), Lucas Kozeniesky (’13), and Claire Spina (’15) are pictured with several other Wolfpack team members.
